The C2’s main limitation is that it doesn’t match the high brightness and color volume of Samsung’s QD-OLED TV, and thus won’t flourish to the same degree in brighter rooms, especially with HDR video. It also natively supports Dolby Atmos audio and, like last year’s C1, has a full suite of HDMI 2.1 inputs and advanced gaming functions. From lower-resolution SDR content through essentially all forms of HDR (including Dolby Vision), the C2 looks excellent. The C2 is available in screen sizes from 42 to 83 inches, and most of those sizes offer improved brightness over previous-generation LG OLEDs-though buyers interested in the 42- and 48-inch options will have to settle for a slightly dimmer picture. But if you want the best 55- or 65-inch OLED TV you can get, the S95B delivers heretofore unachievable brightness and color saturation and an overall gorgeous image-for a price that’s only modestly higher than LG’s most competitive OLED (see below) and more than $1,000 less than Sony’s rival QD-OLED model.įor the first time in years, LG’s C Series is not our top pick for best OLED TV, but the new C2 still delivers top-tier OLED picture quality at more reasonable prices and across a wider range of sizes than essentially any other 2022 OLED line. Arguably the biggest drawback is that the S95B is only available in 55- and 65-inch screen sizes, so it’s not ideal for those who want a smaller or larger screen. It does not support Dolby Vision HDR, and the redesigned Tizen smart TV platform is sluggish at times, though we liked the new full-screen interface that shows more video streaming and gaming services at once. We’re also big fans of the included Eco Remote Control, which eschews batteries for solar/light charging. Both SDR video and HDR video look superb, and this 4K 120 Hz TV has full support for HDMI 2.1 features to deliver better performance with video games. The quantum dot color can make games and sports look deliciously vivid, while the Filmmaker Mode delivers a satisfyingly accurate, filmlike picture for movies. The S95B has the best bright-room performance we’ve found from an OLED, which makes this TV viable to use in almost any viewing environment, not just a darkened room. The result is the biggest leap forward in OLED TV performance we’ve seen in several years. It’s especially effective on movies, sports and gaming packed with punchy colours, so you’re not really going to get the full effect if your viewing habits consist mainly of Love Island. The Samsung S95B uses a new type of OLED panel, called QD-OLED, that combines the perfect black levels, high contrast, and huge viewing angles of OLED technology with the vivid color saturation and high brightness of quantum dots (see our TV buying guide for definitions of these tech terms). The idea behind Ambilight is simple but very, very effective. Some might say Ambilight is a gimmick, but it’s done a good job of winning over picky TV buyers and tech journalists for nearly 20 years so it’s here to stay. The nifty light strip is available for 55, 65 and 75in TVs, but to make it work you’ll also need to cough up for a Hue Bridge and Sync Box, if you don’t already have one. That means you’ll get an ambient glow that matches what’s on your TV all around the room.Īnd if you want to bring some of Ambilight vibes to your non-Philips TV, the Philips Hue Play Gradient Light Strip can be attached to the back of you telly. You can take your mood lighting to the next level by hooking up your Ambilight TV to your Philips Hue smart bulbs. Targeting buildings and clearing the field may use a bit of ammunition, but clearing cover forces the enemy to displace, leaving them open to crossfire. My first few missions I spent time ducking in and out of alleyways with my Steiner Scout Lance and a side of King Crab, but soon I figured out that “through” is just as viable as “around”. This makes missile lock that much more important, but that’s not the only game in town. Watch as a shot intended for an enemy mech ended up lighting him up as the coolant tank nearby exploded:Īs you can see, creating line of sight for ballistic and laser weapons becomes problematic when facing narrow corridors, and those same sight lines are quickly lost with very little movement. The streets have bridges, short buildings, and skyscrapers creating a very dense criss-cross of chokepoints and ambush opportunities. This proved to be a fatal mistake when his perch exploded into a fireball under its feet thanks to stray, indirect fire from his compatriot’s missiles. As you will see in the video below, the enemy thought it might be a good idea to use their jump jets to perch up on top of a shorter building. Rather than relying on simple height differences in open space for advantage as we have up to this point, now your squad will have to contend with skyscrapers and chokepoints.īuildings create an awesome new landscape for chaos and destruction, but let me assure you that they are more hazardous to your health than you might think. You don’t have to restart the campaign to experience the new biome - it occurs naturally as you tackle encounters on urban planets (as the name might suggest). The first thing to know is that the Urban Warfare expansion folds in to the game at any point. I’m very glad to get to power up my mechs once again and check out the Urban Warfare expansion. It was easily the most exciting part of earlier mech battle games, and an aspect I desperately was hoping to see integrated into Harebrained’s BattleTech. Several of those videos featured mechs in combat in wide open spaces, but it’s the tight corridors of the city landscape that makes for claustrophobic and dangerous battle. Flashpoint campaign missions will appear on the map in blue instead of yellow. If you’ve been playing BattleTech as long as I have then you probably remember the grainy but amazing intro videos for the MechWarrior and MechCommander series. The 3rd DLC, Battletech: Heavy Metal, added a flashpoint campaign. The release of the 2nd DLC, Battletech: Urban Warfare, added new flashpoints to the game. In Career, they are available immediately, although it will take a few days of career time before they appear on the Star Map. But as soon as you pass -bflag to it, Git understands it as a command to create a new branch with the given branch name. The checkoutcommand is normally used to checkout already created branches. The checkoutcommand will find the latest commit on the branch from which you want to create a new branch. So what this magical command means and how it works? However let’s first understand what does this checkout command means, and then how can we create a new branch from current or master branches. git checkout -b Īlternatively, you can use two commands to create a branch and then checkout so that you can start working on it. You can create a new branch using the command. The simplest answer to the problem is this command. To understand Git branch better way and in-depth, have a look at this guide from official Git docs on branching. It gives you the flexibility of working on the same codebase with the “N” number of other developers. This is exactly what a branch in Git does. Once done update the latest copy with your changes. Most probably, take a copy of the latest code and do the changes on top of that. If I was to make a command for creating new branches, I would have made a command like “git create branch ”.ĭo you see how readable and intuitive it is? Well, but to our surprise, this is not the command that exists. This way the steps become universal for usage. Why the command line? Because once you know how to do it from the command line, you can do it for any VCS platform be it Github, Gitlab, or Atlassian git. However, all of them will involve the steps to do it from the command line. In this tutorial, I will be listing down some of the easiest ways of git to create a new branch from the current branch. At a news conference this month, scientists from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention called such criticism “intolerable.” The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not respond to requests for comment. The sequences showed that raccoon dogs, a foxlike animal, had deposited genetic signatures in the same place that genetic material from the virus was left, a finding consistent with a scenario in which the virus spread to people from illegally traded market animals. Such censorship spilled into public view recently, when an international group of scientists discovered genetic sequence data that Chinese researchers had collected from a Wuhan market in January 2020 but withheld from foreign experts for three years - a delay that global health officials called “inexcusable.” The crackdown continues to breed misinformation today and has hindered efforts to determine the origins of the virus. It bred mistrust of science in Europe and the United States, as health officials cited papers from China that were then retracted. But the campaign starved doctors and policymakers of critical information about the virus at the moment the world needed it most. This scientific censorship has not universally succeeded: The original version of the February 2020 paper, for example, can still be found online with some digging. Groups including the World Health Organization have given credence to muddled data and inaccurate timelines. Western journal editors enabled those efforts by agreeing to those edits or withdrawing papers for murky reasons, a review by the Times of over a dozen retracted papers found. Under pressure from their government, Chinese scientists have withheld data, withdrawn genetic sequences from public databases and altered crucial details in journal submissions. Its censorship campaign has targeted international journals and scientific databases, shaking the foundations of shared scientific knowledge, a New York Times investigation found. But Beijing’s stranglehold on information goes far deeper than even many pandemic researchers are aware of. That the Chinese government muzzled scientists, hindered international investigations and censored online discussion of the pandemic is well documented. “There was so much covered up, and so much hidden.” “It was so hard to get any information out of China,” said one of the authors, Ira Longini, of the University of Florida, who described the backstory of the removal publicly for the first time in a recent interview. That effort kicked up a cloud of dust around the dates of early COVID cases, like those reported in the study. Instead, it was withdrawn at the direction of Chinese health officials amid a crackdown on science. What is now clear is that the study was not removed because of faulty research. Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times This is why firearms are never ported on the bottom of the barrel, as that would exacerbate muzzle rise, rather than mitigate it. The concept is an application of Newton's third law the exhaust directed upward causes a reciprocal force downward. These holes divert a portion of the gases expelled prior to the departure of the projectile in a direction that reduces the tendency of the firearm to rise. Porting typically involves precision-drilled ports or holes in the forward top part of the barrel and slide on pistols. When the gases are primarily directed upward, the braking is referred to as porting. Of course, this also means the gases are directed toward the shooter. When the brake redirects the gases directly backward, instead, the effect is similar to the reverse thrust system on an aircraft jet engine: any blast energy coming back at the shooter is pushing "against" the recoil, effectively reducing the actual amount of recoil on the shooter. They reduce muzzle rise similarly to the mechanism by which a sideways brake does: since all the gas is escaping in the same direction, any muzzle rise would need to alter the velocity of the gas, which costs kinetic energy. Since that is where the bullet is going, they typically work by allowing the gases to expand into the compensator, which surrounds the muzzle but only has holes facing forward like any device which allows the gases to expand before leaving the firearm, they are effectively a type of muzzle shroud. Most linear compensators redirect the gases forward. Any device that is attached to the end of the muzzle will also add mass, increasing its inertia and moving its center of mass forward the former will reduce recoil and the latter will reduce muzzle rise.ĭoubleTap. If gases are directed upward, they will exert a downward force and counteract muzzle rise. The angle toward which the gases are directed will fundamentally affect how the brake behaves. The momentum of the diverted gases thus does not add to the recoil. The strategy of a muzzle brake is to redirect and control the burst of combustion gases following the departure of a projectile.Īll muzzle brake designs share a basic principle: to partially divert combustion gases from the muzzle end of the bore at a (generally) perpendicular angle to the long axis of the barrel. Brakes most often utilize slots, vents, holes, baffles, and similar devices. This consists of a small length of tubing (mounted at right angles) at the end of the barrel. Muzzle brakes are simple in concept, such as the one employed on the 90 mm M3 gun used on the M47 Patton tank. The M1946 Sieg automatic rifle had an unusual muzzle brake that made the rifle climb downward, but enabled the user to fire it with one hand in full automatic. If that line of force is above the center of the contact points, this creates a moment or torque (rotational force) that causes the firearm to rotate and the muzzle to rise. The reactive forces from the fired bullet and propellant gases exiting the muzzle act directly down the centerline of the barrel. The muzzle rises primarily because, for most firearms, the centerline of the barrel is above the center of contact between the shooter and the firearm's grip and stock. Firearms with less height from the grip line to the barrel centerline tend to experience less muzzle rise. The interchangeable terms muzzle rise, muzzle flip, or muzzle climb refer to the tendency of a handheld firearm's front end (the muzzle end of the barrel) to rise after firing. The forces A and B operating over moment arm/height C create torque or moment D, which rotates the firearm's muzzle up as illustrated at E The height difference between barrel centerline and average point of contact is height C. The shooter resists the forces by contact with the gun at grips and stock B. Projectile and propellant gases act on barrel along barrel center line A. |
